I was thinking the other day about when I started this blog. A lot has happened in my life since then. But the main reason I started sharing my life online was to show that God is real. I used to live in a place in my life where I wasn’t sure that was true. I spent a lot of years looking for answers, and wasting time pursuing things that were really of no value whatsoever.
I know what it is like to be unsure of which direction to take in life. I’ve been in the place where I was filling my life with what I thought would make me happy. I tried to gain success in business by working hard and doing what was right. I used a lot of my free time to pursue my own pleasure. Sometimes that was through relationships, sometimes music, sometimes substances, sometimes sex. Sometimes it was more healthy, through working out, exploring nature, enjoying the beach.
But I found more often than not, I wasn’t satisfied. No matter what roads I chose to try to find fulfillment, I still found myself feeling empty at the end of it.
I know that I am not the only person who has felt this way. Someone reading this right now is probably questioning whether all the time and effort they have put into their current life is really all there is. If the relationships, jobs, stuff and activities that fill their days is really all life has to offer. If there might be something more that would meet that deep, deep need they feel inside.
And I can tell you, it’s not more of what you already have or different that is going to satisfy. Only God can satisfy that deepest desire you feel. He built us that way. He wants it that way. And it is good.
In God’s grace, he brought my wife into my life, who brought me to a good church, which staffed a pastor who taught me the truth of God’s word. I met Jesus, and my life has improved so drastically that I’ll never have the words to explain it.
As I’ve learned more about God, the things I cling to most are the promises of God. Throughout the Bible, God makes amazing promises to those who will love Him and follow His ways. Promises of provision, healing, help, love, eternal life, joy, patience, restoration, freedom. No matter where you turn in the Bible, on that page or within a few pages, you’ll find another amazing promise from God.
The key to experiencing God is to fully trust that He will fulfill His promises. By having faith in His word, I’ve seen my life radically change, and miracles have happened. God has been completely faithful to His word.
I was struck by how trustworthy God is when reading this passage just yesterday: “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19, NLT).
Whether you already have a relationship with God or not, you can trust Him. My own life has been moved in astounding ways since I finally trusted in God’s promises. God will always keep his promises.
If you are searching for any answers, any relief, any peace in your life that you cannot find, turn to God. Open the Bible, read his promises, believe in Him. He has never failed me and he will be there for you.
